On July 16th, it was reported that the double shield hard rock TBM tunnel boring machine developed by Fangda Group Northern Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd.(NHI) for a key ecological project in China has successfully passed the factory acceptance.

It is understood that the project is located in western China, and the total length of the tunnel to be excavated is about 15 kilometers. The double shield hard rock TBM tunnel boring machine developed by NHI for this project has an excavation diameter of 4.87 meters, a total length of nearly 300 meters, and weighs over 1000 tons.

According to Zhang Huifeng, a designer at the NHI Tunnel Equipment Design and Research Institute of Fangda Group, "The R&D personnel have designed the equipment according to the geological conditions and possible construction problems of the project. In order to achieve long-distance and rapid excavation, a high torque and high-power cutterhead drive system, a long-life heavy-duty cutterhead system for efficient excavation, and a continuous belt conveyor system for rapid slag removal have been configured. Normalized advanced drilling machines and shield anti twist devices have been installed in the host area to ensure that it has the ability to quickly handle adverse geology and efficiently excavate during excavation. The powerful functional combination and efficient operation ability of the equipment will greatly improve the safety, environmental protection, quality, and excavation efficiency of tunnel construction in engineering projects

After the equipment entered the workshop assembly stage, NHI carefully deployed and formulated an assembly plan, implementing a three shift operation. The assembly workers were composed of technical backbones selected from each team, ensuring assembly quality while also accelerating assembly speed. The assembly and debugging of the entire equipment were completed in just 68 days. After successful acceptance, the device has now reached the factory conditions.
